Mott MacDonald is looking for an experienced In-House Consultant with heavy expertise in Automatic Train Control having 15+ years' experience, to undertake a range of key projects in our Arlington office. Successful candidate should have the skills to perform a wide range of tasks such as:

 

  • Produce new or evaluate existing block layout
  • Assess available headway and runtime advantages for various train control strategies (cab signal, wayside signal, CBTC and so on)
  • Write Specifications for car carried equipment and systems and write specifications for wayside equipment and systems
  • Conduct industry feedback on candidate strategies for various system configurations
  • Evaluate bids
  • Submittal Review
  • Produce engineering white papers including simulation and analysis 
  • Solve problems encountered by prime / authority
  • Provide simulation tools (block calculations) for execution in projects
  • Estimate effort, identify team expertise required to execute, and execute team fortification through hiring / teaming as necessary
  • Identify and protect Mott MacDonald's interest within existing or new team configurations
  • Find new opportunities for work participation and engagement and evaluate advertised opportunities
  • Craft approaches for Mott MacDonald's continued success 
  • Evaluate existing staff expertise & availability, identify external team possibilities, and evaluate competitors 
  • Consult / meet with prime contractors / authorities
  • Call on and find solutions through industry contacts
  • Increase capabilities of staff through consultation and instruction
  • Direct questions to in house expertise

 

Candidate Specification:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of hands-on technical experience and education
  • Minimum 15 years of experience with train control system design and implementation
  • Requires experience with train control technology including relay applications, vital and non-vital microprocessor hardware and software applications, track circuits, signals, and switch machines.
  • Experience with audio frequency track circuits and cab signals
  • Results oriented
  • Focus on client requirements including technical, schedule and budget
  • Capable of completing work in a controlled environment to meet budget and schedule requirements
  • Must be familiar with train control industry standards, FRA regulations and AREMA guidelines
