Overview of the role

 

We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Principal Engineer - Mechanical to join our growing Buildings team in Riyadh.  The role provides the opportunity to work on an exciting range of projects in both private and public sectors, including major framework & infrastructure developments in addition to one-off projects. The role will be challenging, varied and offer opportunities for skill set development and career development.


As a successful candidate, you will have a strong background and proficiency in Building Services Mechanical Engineering design, and good technical and project management competencies. Your strong written and verbal communication of technical issues to varied technical and non-technical audiences will be key to your success in the role.

You will work autonomously within a team delivering building services projects and potentially manage several projects and the work of others.


As the successful candidate, you will typically be responsible for:

  • Preparation and review of documentation e.g. basis of designs, technical/design specifications, procurement specifications, assessment reports, and survey reports, tailored to the required stage of project completion, covering all aspects of Mechanical Building Services
  • Implementation of detailed surveys of mechanical services and equipment to establish the status of the existing installations and gain sufficient information to recommend new/upgrade design proposals
  • Producing and reviewing Mechanical Building Services design drawings
  • Producing and reviewing detailed calculations
  • Producing fee estimates for work elements
  • Advising on all aspects of energy consumption and utilisation with recommendations to improve energy performance
  • Monitoring of the design and project management of Building Services elements of projects within agreed programmes
  • Supporting/ mentoring/ coaching junior Mechanical Building Services engineers to develop their skill set.
  • Working and liaising with associated engineering disciplines as part of delivering projects
  • Management of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support senior managers running the commercial and contractual side of projects.

Candidate Specification

 

You will be able to demonstrate technical experience in delivering a range of building sub-sectors and infrastructure projects.


Take a look at the skills, qualifications and experience we’re looking for, as listed below. Please bear in mind that you may not need to meet 100% of these to be considered for the position.

 

  • Member of the Saudi Council of Engineers
  • CEng, and a member of CIBSE or the IMechE
  • A degree in Building Services Engineering specialising in mechanical engineering, or a degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent Building Services work experience
  • Experience at a senior level of Mechanical Building Services Engineering in the built environment, preferably within a consultancy business and preferably with experience in the Commercial, Hospitality, Education, Sports, Residential, and Healthcare sectors
  • Have experience of working on large building projects (SAR30m+)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current building regulations, legislation, and standards applicable in building/infrastructure design in the Built Environment.
  • The application of LEED and Well
  • Highly competent user/ knowledge of industry-recognised software and mechanical engineer design tools.
  • BIM knowledge and experience
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work on own initiative and the confidence to make decisions
  • Ability to work well collaboratively, both internally and with external partners and sub-contractors
  • Management of internal stakeholders
  • Management of external stakeholders, ensuring client satisfaction, and pursuing and promoting opportunities with potential and established clients.
  • Developing, maintaining, and monitoring programs for scheduling and reporting on deliverables across specific projects.
  • Maximising profitability of projects, monitoring against budget, reacting and anticipating potential problems, and communicating in line with client expectations.
  • Demonstrating technical expertise, providing in-depth knowledge whilst proactively coaching and developing graduate/early career professionals.
  • Have experience in leading Mechanical Building services and some multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Have experience in mentoring and leading graduate/early career professionals.
  • Have some experience in managing client relationships and expectations with accountability for one or more key customer relationships and delivery of outputs.
  • Working as a specialist providing high-level advice to others.
  • Track record of achievement and innovation, delivering complex projects or new services
  • Managing and supervising the work of other professionally qualified staff.
  • Well-developed professional network externally and desire to build internal networks within the organization.
  • Have excellent communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
