About the Role
Mott MacDonald's Water team has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer in the Brisbane office. We have recently been appointed onto the fully integrated ambitious Next Generation for Delivery program with Urban Utilities. Spanning up to 10 years, NG4D will see the planning, design, and construction of water, wastewater, network, and treatment infrastructure across Urban Utilities’ South East Queensland operational area, This initiative will help address some of the most pressing challenges facing the region, including climate change, population growth, and ageing infrastructure. You will be producing engineering deliverables for water and wastewater design and construct (D&C) projects:
- Preparing design calculations and supporting the development of engineering drawings for infrastructure, including: pipelines and appurtenances (pressure and gravity systems), pumping stations, water retaining structures and water treatment plants/resource recovery centres and associated infrastructure.
- Managing weekly design progress and periodic design review meetings, maintaining action logs, decision registers and meeting minutes.
- Production of specialist reports (e.g. Site Access, Tenure, Environmental and Planning (STEP) report).
- Organising and running capital delivery milestone workshops (e.g. SID, HAZOP, etc.) and associated reports and/or registers Interfacing with third parties (suppliers, sub-contractors, etc.)
You will also be working within a team to define, develop and select options to meet client defined outcomes with a view to selecting the best value solution, with tasks including:
- Identifying risks and opportunities and managing the mitigation of the associated risks.
- Developing a solution scope in adequate engineering detail to allow capital and whole life costing, while meeting the outcomes, be buildable, and represent best value to customers.
- Using multi-criteria analysis (or similar) assessment techniques.
- Maintaining the commercial and project management performance in your project responsibilities.
- Engineering calculations (hydraulics, structural and/or geotechnical), embodied and operational carbon calculations.
- Preparing reports and other client specific deliverables.
- Working in a collaborative team with other partner design and/or construction organisations, including client members and our Global Delivery Services Unit.
- Support, develop and mentor graduates and interns.
- Develop strong relationships with internal and external clients.
- Support and provide input to new bid opportunities.
About You
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
- Actively progressing towards RPEQ in your field/discipline
- Demonstrated experience and/or an appreciation of wastewater treatment processes, wastewater and water networks and their associated infrastructure.
- Proven experience as an engineer delivering and leading water and wastewater projects across networks and treatment, preferably with some experience within design and construction projects.
- Knowledge of national standards, including Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) standards and drawings (incl. SEQ amendments), as well as local client standards and procedures (e.g. Unitywater, Urban Utilities, Seqwater, etc.).
- Experience in the ethical and responsible use of AI.
- Proficiency in general Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project). Experience in other engineering software preferred, but not essential.
- Be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication and written skills.
