About the business unit 
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy. 

 

 

Overview of the role
We are seeking an experienced Chartered Highways Engineer to be part of our Transport and Mobility Solutions Division in the UK. You will be required to combine managerial leadership and technical responsibilities, promote a collaborative approach and inspire teams to deliver projects to quality, budget and timescales.

 

You will be offered, and be expected to take on, a high degree of autonomy and responsibility and able to contribute to growing the highways team's profile and work portfolio through successful project delivery and participation in business development.

 

Although this role is located in the South and South West of England, you will be expected to collaborate with our wider business across the UK and overseas.

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the planning, design and implementation of highway projects Demonstrating leadership and ensuring adherence to H&S policy and procedures • Leading a portfolio of projects, ensuring delivery to client requirements, programme and budget
  • Controlling project resources and monitoring against budget
  • Preparing and managing work programmes to deliver to deadlines
  • Developing and maintaining excellent client relationships
  • Delivering bid proposals and submissions
  • Active involvement in business development
  • Mentoring and developing junior staff

 


Candidate specification
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline, or extensive equivalent experience
  • Chartered (or Incorporated) Engineer with a proven record of technical leadership on highway and infrastructure projects
  • Experienced in managing multi-disciplinary design projects, including planning and controlling programmes, budgets, and resources
  • Strong understanding of highway design standards (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) / Specification for Highways Works (SHW) / Manual for Streets) and experienced with using design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads and InfoDrainage
  • Able to communicate confidently and professionally with colleagues, fellow professionals and clients at all levels (written and verbal)
  • Experience in preparing fee proposals, contributing to business development, and building client relationships, including with local authorities and government clients. 

 

We require a combination of the following skills: 

  • Knowledge of highway design principles and understanding design standards such as DMRB, SHW and Manual for Streets
  • Experience in the use of BIM to coordinate design inputs
  • Have capability to work to deadlines and work autonomously when required Possess experience of preparing engineering design calculations, detailed construction drawings and standard details and technical specifications
  • Have an understanding of personal Health and Safety responsibilities
  • Prepared to work away from home when required
