We are looking for a highly motivated individual to become a Senior DevOps Platform Engineer within our Platform Services team. The home office location is Auckland.  

 

We help our business to deliver software safely and efficiently by developing an Internal Development Platform. This allows domain experts to enter this space safely with a lowered barrier to entry, allowing them to translate this domain expertise into digital assets. Role purpose 

You will join the Mott MacDonald Platform Services team.  This is an innovative and dynamic team, responsible for developing and maintaining an exciting product range to expand our existing offering.

In addition to being technically gifted, the successful candidate will: 

  • Take technical ownership of the solution, working closely with the Product Manager to define and deliver the right outcomes 

  • Lead the sprint team, guiding developers and ensuring delivery of high-quality solutions 

  • Provide technical project leadership, including solution architecture, technical planning, and coordination across workstreams 

  • Collaborate across global teams, navigating time zones and cultural differences effectively 

  • Be a self-starter, able to work independently and take initiative 

  • Be a team player, fostering collaboration and mentoring others 

 
 

Candidate specification 

Our ideal candidate will have a degree in computer science and/or (equivalent qualification in) software engineering and related experience in a similar role.  It's also beneficial if you have prior work experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering, or other related field. 
 
You will need to be experienced in: 

  • C# 

  • Kubernetes 

  • Docker 

  • Terraform 

  • BASH 

  • Scalable software systems and development best practices 

  
You have You’ll have a commitment to quality and have an excellent eye for details. 
 
 It is beneficial if you have any of the following technical knowledge/experience: 

  • Multi-cloud proficiency across AWS and Azure services 

  • Infrastructure as Code, especially using Terraform 

  • Cloud networking, security groups, and IAM/RBAC 

  • Docker containerization and image optimization 

  • Kubernetes application deployment, manifest development, and cluster maintenance 

  • Container networking concepts 

  • PostgreSQL administration, optimization and replication 

  • Database backup, recovery and high availability strategies 

  • Message Queue Implementations (RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus) 

  • Data pipeline and streaming concepts 

  • C#/.NET application development and deployment 

  • Python for automation and tooling 

  • Bash scripting and Linux system administration 

  • API design principles and RESTful architectures 

  • CI/CD pipeline design and implementation 

  • GitOps workflows and practices 

  • Monitoring, logging and observability strategies 

  • Security best practices and zero-trust principles 

  • Performance tuning and capacity planning
