Mott MacDonald is actively seeking a HVAC/Tunnel Ventilation & Fire Life Safety Engineer for immediate employment in our Los Angeles office to work in the Tunnels and Building Sciences Group. This position will afford an opportunity to work within a specialized group of professionals in the assessment and development of conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs for major road and rail transportation projects and related underground or enclosed structures and overbuilds. The position provides great potential for professional advancement and in-house training.

 

The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Designing mechanical (HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection) systems using engineering calculations and preparing design drawings and specifications under the direction of senior engineers or project managers
  • Perform studies, evaluations and preliminary design
  • Prepare contract documents including drawings, specifications and calculations
  • Lead tasks and supervise junior engineers within larger scale projects
  • Ensuring accuracy of design and contract documents
  • Innovative mechanical design and analysis
  • Design services during construction – submittal and RFI review
  • Support or lead proposal development
  • Some project management

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mining, or equivalent engineering degree from an Accredited four-year college or university.
  • PE License in Mechanical and Fire Protection
  • 8 + years of experience in HVAC/tunnel ventilation design and fire protection design
  • Knowledge of Revit, Trace 700, HAP, Pipeflo software
  • Experience with ventilation equipment installations
  • Familiarity with fans, controls, and fire life safety codes and standards (NFPA, AMCA, ASHRAE) with emphasis on NFPA 130 and NFPA 502
  • Working knowledge of Building Codes and NFPA standards
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of common office software
  • Self-motivated and experienced in performing calculations and delivering quality work
  • Demonstrated abilities to work within project timeframes and budget constraints
  • Ability to travel to clients and job sites and be willing to attend meetings after regular business hours – some travel may be required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Familiarity with mechanical, fire protection, and egress assessment
  • Familiarity with Fire Life Safety mechanical equipment inspection, testing and implementation
  • Experience with Design-Build pursuit or Design-Build Plans and Specifications production

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.

 

The expected salary for this position is $126,000- $154,000.
