Mott MacDonald has an immediate need for a Senior Structural Engineer to work on Built Environment related projects in Canada and assist in directing Built Environment staff performing planning, design and construction of institutional, aviation, healthcare, governmental, transportation, and general infrastructure projects.
As a Senior Structural Engineer, your roles and responsibilities are expected to include:
- Leading the design of a wide range of structural design projects within the built environment group
- Leading the assessment, rehabilitation and seismic upgrade design to existing structures from planning through concept to implementation;
- Working with other professionals, clients, and third parties as required;
- Writing technical memos and reports to communicate your work;
- Supervising, coordinating and reviewing the work of other structural engineers—including technical reports, engineering drawings, cost estimates, specifications, contract documents, and technical support during construction;
- Overseeing the planning and management of projects to ensure that work is fit for purpose, completed on schedule and within budget;
- Providing project management and technical oversight—including mentoring team members and setting high standards for professionalism and quality;
- Working with new and existing clients to identify opportunities and develop new business as part of our ongoing growth strategy; and
- Leading the preparation of proposals.
You will have experience in infrastructure, transportation, aviation and/or built environment market segments and possess the following skills and experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering with a preference for a master's degree in structural engineering or earthquake engineering
- A Stuctural P.Eng license, or immediate eligibility for licensing as an engineer in Canada is required
- A minimum of 10 years’ design experience in the built environment sector
- A minimum of 5 year’s design experience working on Canadian built environment projects
- Experience in the structural design of one or more of the following building types: airports, transit/train stations or hospitals
- Experience being a structural engineer of record for all stages of built environment projects including concept, detailed design and construction administration
- Experience in working directly with clients, contractors, architects and other design disciplines
- Demonstrated ability in design and analysis of structural systems including steelwork and reinforced concrete to Canadian design codes
- Ability in seismic design and analysis of structures to Canadian design codes
- Demonstrated ability in both new build and building renovation/redevelopment/ repurposing
- Strong knowledge of local and national codes and other legislative requirements
- Excellent ability in use of structural design and analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000, or Robot
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects and structural design packages on-time and budget to the satisfaction of clients
- Experience in mentoring and managing structural team members
- Ability in assuring the quality of deliverables for yourself and the team
- Experience in delivering projects using BIM and technology driven solutions
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner, both written and verbally
- Positive ‘can-do’ attitude, to working with colleagues and clients
- Ability to travel within Canada and internationally as required to support projects is preferred
- Experience in the application of automation, computational design and/or AI in the production of designs is preferred
- Ability in timber and masonry is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
