We are looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Senior Tunnel Engineer / Project Manager to support our Toronto tunnels team. In this position you will work alongside our geotechnical and structural engineers on local, national and global projects. 

 

As a Senior Tunnel Engineer / Project Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing design solutions and associated deliverables by drawing on deep knowledge of a broad range of geotechnical and structural skills, including: tunnel, shaft, support of excavation, and underground structure design;

  • Providing technical guidance and leadership in the development of technical solutions for underground projects, particularly those in the water / wastewater and transit markets;

  • Providing constructability and biddability reviews;

  • Delivery of packages of design work including writing reports and specifications;

  • Providing leadership on matters of underground engineering practice, including codes and standards, calculations, and construction drawings;

  • Project Management or design package management including collaboration with external and internal stakeholders, quality control, and management of inputs from other team members;

  • Liaising with the client, attending progress meetings and producing reports on progress;

  • Advancing the team’s capability by advancing technical excellence and digital innovation; and

  • Supporting the company in winning future projects through business development efforts and proposal delivery.

 

The right candidate is a versatile and creative thinker who can lead teams of engineers to provide practical solutions to complex problems.

The candidate must have the following qualifications:

  • A strong academic background, with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering (a Master’s degree would be considered an asset)

  • At least 10 years of relevant project experience in Structural/Geotechnical engineering design & construction for tunnels, shafts and other underground structures (experience with water / wastewater projects in the GTHA and with tunnel design / project management would be considered an asset)

  • P.Eng designation in Ontario is required (or candidate is able to obtain it within short period of time)

  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; able to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and clients and nurture the development of junior staff

  • Advanced knowledge in developing innovative underground structure solutions using current design standards and guidelines

  • Capability or familiarity with numerical analysis software (geotechnical/structural)

  • Ability and enthusiasm for supervising the work of others, including check and approval of key deliverables
