Mott MacDonald is actively growing its water practice in North America. We are currently seeking a water market leader to develop our Northwest US market share including Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Utah.

We anticipate the candidate’s primary office will be in Seattle, WA, but they will be flexible with their work extending into all of our offices in the target area. This is a unique opportunity to leverage our existing water presence and help build Mott MacDonald’s presence in the Northwest US focused on water-related projects, in close coordination with our Water Market Leader for the Southwest US and the Eastern US.

The successful candidate is expected to be a visible leader within our offices and be an ambassador for the Mott MacDonald brand both internally and externally, prioritizing a positive culture in the face of continued growth within the Region.

The position offers excellent potential for professional growth and the opportunity to collaborate not only with water resources personnel, but with our many practices including dams, geotechnical, energy, and transportation.

The qualified candidate must have strong leadership and program management experience and direct business development experience during their career, with the ability to generate project leads, build client relationships and win work.

 A primary objective of this position will also involve helping identify viable hire candidates from the area that are seller/doers with strong water sector technical skills and local area relationships that can help grow an area's water sector presence and capability. This position requires direct interaction with clients and the ability to manage and lead Mott MacDonald professionals. The role will require managing design teams comprising Mott MacDonald’s supporting technical disciplines and specialty sub-consultants as well as construction management and planning staff.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Developing, in coordination with the Water Market Leader for North America and current water practice personnel, a strategic growth plan for water in the Northwest US marketplace, and implementation of the growth plan.
  • Interact with clients and regulatory agencies. Actively participate in client contact, business development, identifying and generating project opportunities.
  • Mentor and develop a team of water professionals; providing guidance, support, and opportunities for professional growth. Advising on promotion, salary and training of the staff in the group in consultation with the Resource Manager.
  • Managing the Discipline Leads, advising on team structure, and actively mentoring, coaching, and planning for succession.
  • Lead initiatives and projects, ensuring that they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Identify and help attract local area engineering talent to grow the business. Managing the utilization of resources in coordination with the Resource Manager (short-term and long-term), including planning and forecasting for critical project and opportunity resourcing. Coordinating with the Resource Manager to plan and lead the hiring of new staff, identifying gaps in the team, collaborating with talent acquisition and planning for growth in alignment with the strategic objectives.
  • Establish and nurture an innovative challenging, collaborative, and high-performing work environment that supports and fosters the Mott MacDonald values and culture.
  • Work with the Development Manager, Strategic Market Leaders, Practice Leaders, and Account Leaders to achieve a uniform, proactive, and planned approach to business development, pursuits, and client engagement across the Division.
  • Develop and implement strategies to drive growth and improve performance.
  • Demonstrate exemplary leadership in maintaining the Ethical standards and values of Mott MacDonald, ensuring a zero tolerance of unacceptable behaviors.
  • Ensure the correct governance policies, procedures and standards are implemented and achieved.
  • Proactively engage with the Unit and demonstrate visible and inspiring leadership. Support the Senior Leadership teams through the provision of strategic advice guidance, coaching and direction.

  • Solid understanding of project delivery fundamentals including budget, schedule, and quality. Familiarity with contract and commercial management to influence successful outcomes.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with clients and industry partners, leveraging these connections to support business development.
  • Experience in strategic planning, budget oversight, and resource management to support organizational growth and efficiency.
  • Deep understanding of the architecture, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry, with insights into infrastructure trends and best practices.

At Mott MacDonald, we provide a comprehensive benefit package that includes 401k, medical, dental and vision insurance, short-term/long-term disability, paid holidays, PTO, parental leave and company paid life insurance. 

The expected salary for this position is $200,000 - $265,000

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills. 

If a requisition is being posted in multiple locations with pay transparency requirements, an individual salary range by state should be included. The only exception is if the salary range (min or max) is different by $3,000 or less. If the exception applies, the lowest minimum to the highest maximum should be posted as the expected salary range. If the exception does not apply, each state should have its own range, and the verbiage is “The expected salary for this position in XXX is X-X.
