Mott MacDonald has appointed Nasrine Tomasi as head of artificial intelligence (AI) and information management, driving the growth and development of responsible AI within the company.
Nasrine has been at Mott MacDonald for 20 years. She started her career in New Zealand, developing trusted relationships with clients including Auckland Council. Her deep technical knowledge enabled her to develop solutions based on machine learning, while expanding her own capability in AI.
Now based in Europe, Nasrine and her team are responsible for accelerating AI adoption across Mott MacDonald’s global business.
“Our knowledge and information management has been transformed by the introduction of responsible AI. Bringing these activities together is accelerating the capture and sharing of information and our ability to disseminate it to our people,” said Nasrine.
The effort to democratise AI for employees includes the development of Mott MacDonald’s own generative AI assistant “Every Mott MacDonald Answer” – known as EMMA. First launched in January 2025, and now on its second version, the tool instantly connects its 20,000 staff with relevant information from across the global business.
“Having a tool like EMMA that is specific to our business, our knowledge and our processes is really unique in the industry,” said David Johnson, group development director for Mott MacDonald. “I’m excited for Nasrine to continue working on our fantastic AI initiatives and accelerating adoption across the business.”
Consolidating AI with information management is the latest step in a digitisation journey that the company has been on for over a decade. By focussing on codifying and organising its data, the company is well positioned to maximise opportunities emerging from AI and capitalise on its legacy of experience in the built environment.
The move comes following publication of Mott MacDonald’s industry-leading Responsible AI policy in 2024. Built on three pillars of: governance, learning and partnership, the framework guarantees the safe and secure application of AI tools. It ensures that risks are properly understood and managed, data is protected, and legislation is adhered to in the use of newly augmented AI capabilities.
These steps ensure that the organisation is ready to safely employ the latest developments in AI technology to develop highly efficient, high-quality solutions for clients.
