We spoke to Sujay Kale, senior electrical BIM engineer, based in Mumbai who shared how he has grown during his time with us and how from day one, he's been empowered to lead with purpose.
I am working as a senior electrical building information modelling (BIM) engineer leading and coordinating our energy infrastructure projects, driving coordination and digital delivery. I am part of a growing team of digital specialists based in Mumbai, India.
I have a sharp focus on electrical substations and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection services. My role allows me to transform complex design challenges into coordinated, clash-free BIM models that support seamless execution.
In 2024, I steered BIM teams for key energy projects across a variety of disciplines, resolving critical design issues and ensuring precise, timely digital delivery.
I also support our integrated electricity networks team as early careers professional lead.
My journey into the BIM domain was driven by a fascination with how digital technology can revolutionize infrastructure, from design to delivery. I was drawn to the challenge of integrating complex data, systems and teams into a unified digital process that brings solutions to life with precision.

We are proud to be part of an ever-changing global industry, delivering transformative work that’s defining our future. It’s our people who power that performance.
I have extensively worked on data center substations with a variety of electrical complexities. These projects were fast-paced and technically intensive projects with no time for delays – versatility and adaptability were key. During delivery, I wore multiple hats, including leading BIM coordination teams for electrical, civils and structures, managing the outdoor lighting design and automation for integrating applications, such as DIALux lighting design software. It’s a wonderful feeling to offer “one stop solutions” to multiple problems.
Amid tight deadlines and evolving client requirements, I was able to resolve major design issues early with constant communication internally and with external stakeholders. My ability to provide swift solutions, leveraging the implementation of Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and guidance to the team, helped maintain momentum and avoid bottlenecks. These efforts kept the project on track and built lasting trust with client teams – we demonstrated how being proactive can drive excellence across every layer of project delivery.
I truly believe in the phrase: “teamwork makes the dream work.” Being part of a global team at Mott MacDonald means working beyond boundaries – geographical, technical and cultural – towards a shared vision of delivering purposeful, sustainable infrastructure.
Whether I’m developing strategies, workflows, coordinating BIM models, designing outdoor lighting systems or mentoring new team members, I know I’m part of something larger – where every contribution, no matter where it comes from, moves us all forward. That collective drive is what makes our work truly brilliant.
My journey to Mott MacDonald began with a desire to move from execution to innovation – from the fast-paced environment of a general contractor to the forward-thinking world of engineering consultancy.
