Job Description

Shape a Sustainable Future. Drive Positive Change. Make Every Project Matter.

At Mott MacDonald, we’re more than a consultancy—we’re a purpose-driven community of passionate individuals working together to improve society. As a wholly employee-owned global business, we choose our own direction and focus on what truly matters: delivering sustainable outcomes for our clients, empowering our people, and making a positive difference in the communities we serve.

Sustainability isn’t a buzzword—it’s the foundation of everything we do. As a Graduate Environmental & Sustainability Consultant, you’ll be part of a team that’s helping to shape a better tomorrow by embedding environmental responsibility and sustainable thinking into major infrastructure projects across the energy, water, and transport sectors.

You’ll work on projects that matter—assessing environmental impacts, guiding sustainability strategies, and exploring innovative technologies that improve outcomes for people and the planet. You’ll also contribute to internal initiatives that enhance our own sustainability performance, helping us lead by example.

What You’ll Be Doing:

You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver integrated, impactful solutions. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Environmental impact assessments: Evaluate the effects of major projects and ensure compliance with UK and international standards.
  • Sustainability strategy: Support the development and implementation of sustainability plans across diverse sectors.
  • Performance monitoring: Set and track sustainability KPIs and targets to drive continuous improvement.
  • Innovation and insight: Explore emerging technologies and materials to inform decision-making and enhance project outcomes.
  • Internal leadership: Contribute to initiatives that improve our own sustainability practices and culture.

Mott MacDonald Ltd. are not currently offering sponsorship to candidates under the Skilled Worker visa route in the UK. This decision is as a consequence of the changes made to the Skilled Worker route by the UK Government in April 2024.

Our ethos is to develop, train and retain our graduates and therefore we are looking for a long-term relationship with our graduates. For this reason, we cannot accept applications from candidates who would be working under the Graduate visa route or other time-limited visas, (irrespective of visa duration), due to their temporary nature and the requirement for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route in future.

We continue to welcome applications from candidates who are eligible for alternative immigration routes in the UK, that do not require sponsorship as a Skilled Worker now or in future.
