About the business unit 
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy. 

 


Overview of the role
We are a global engineering, management and development consultancy working across all built environment sectors. We are one of the largest employee-owned companies in the world.

 

Our specialist aviation team is based in London, UK and Madrid, Spain and delivers major airport planning and development projects globally, working collaboratively with our regional offices.

 

The BIM Technician role will involve working on a diverse range of projects relating to airfield designs, airport terminals and surface access requirements.

 

As part of your role, you are likely to get involved with the following tasks:

  • Working on a range of airport design solutions (CAD-related)
  • Deliver detailed CAD design proposals to a high level of accuracy, following specified layering conventions and CAD standards
  • Supporting other team members to deliver drawings for airport planning, master plans, and airfield engineering schemes
  • The ability to review model file against relevant industry standards
  • Maintenance of technical drawings using 2D AutoCAD software
  • Developing and maintaining 3D models using a wide range of software including but not limited to: AutoCAD Civil3D, Infraworks and/or Revit
  • Preparing BIM Execution Plans and ensuring projects comply with Mott MacDonald and Customer requirements
  • Likely involvement in project and workload decisions
  • Liaison with our architectural and pavement engineering teams will be required, as well as other MEP/structural engineering teams
  • Have the opportunity to learn new technical, project management and people management skills from experienced project principals and technical principals with extensive experience
  • Be able to pass on your technical knowledge to new graduates, training them up on tasks and workstreams that you are managing

 

The candidate will be part of a globally respected and diverse team of airport planners, airfield engineers and forecast, capacity and business analysts.

 


Candidate specification
We are looking for a flexible and motivated professional with a genuine passion for the aviation industry and a desire to make a difference in the world, with a special appreciation for sustainability.

 

The successful candidate(s) will be integrated into the delivery and success of the specific functions of the whole project. It is essential that any individual is capable of quickly establishing credible relations with colleagues, client, senior project personnel and site personnel.

 

Essential:

  • Right to work in the UK
  • The eligibility to gain BPSS clearance to working on defence projects
  • Previous demonstrable and relevant CAD experience
  • Ideally the candidate will have worked within a large and/or multi-disciplinary design engineering project thus appreciating the complexities involved
  • Capable of quickly and accurately solving complex CAD and BIM problems
  • The ability to manage multiple documents at once across different projects through share working platform including ProjectWise and Autodesk Construction Cloud
  • Good reporting skills to colleagues and senior managers
  • Fluency in English – knowledge of other languages will be valued as an advantage
  • Good level and style of communication is an essential part of the role as is an organised work manner. A personal drive to successfully conclude project specifics
  • Capable of working to a high degree of accuracy
  • Experience in the use of Civils 3D, GIS and Revit and an understanding of the BIM process will be favourably considered
  • Scripting experience preferred (VBA, ACC Connect, Python)
  • Experience in the preparation of 3D Airfield Pavement models would be highly advantageous ·
  • Good IT skills and a desire to learn
  • Understanding of the use of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D

 

Experience with other software including AviPlan, Infraworks, Navisworks, Revit and/or 3D visualisation tools, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, will be favourably considered.
