As the Principal Bridge Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Support our Canadian Bridge Leadership team through recruitment of additional staff, developing the existing team, managing utilization and supporting business / strategic planning initiatives
- Advising on team structure and actively mentoring, coaching, and planning for succession.
- Organizing tasks to balance the needs of people, projects, and clients, and delegating tasks effectively when needed.
- Continuing to develop a collaborative and respectful culture that encourages excellence, innovation, and learning.
- Demonstrating behaviors that promote our Purpose and align with our PRIDE values.
- Focusing on health, safety, well-being, and career development of the Bridge Team.
- Winning work – working with Account Leads to pursue opportunities, supporting Business Development as necessary.
- Doing work – delivering innovative design solutions for new bridge design and bridge rehabilitations using current design standards and guidelines by drawing on a range of structural skills
- Providing leadership on matters of bridge engineering practice, including codes and standards, calculations, and construction drawings. Establishing processes, procedures and systems to enable the team’s efficient production of consistent and high-quality deliverables.
- Coordinating with other internal bridge and structural team leads in the business to share best practices, lessons learned, and to contribute to a strong technical excellence culture.
- Motivating colleagues to achieve their goals and objectives, and providing constructive feedback to help them improve.
Candidate Specifications
- 15+ years of relevant industry/project experience on transportation-related structural design (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, etc). Ability to take ownership and accountability for structural design work
- A strong academic background, with a bachelor’s level degree in Structural Engineering (a master’s degree would be considered an asset)
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) status with PEO
- Strong technical skills associated with the design of bridges
- A thorough understanding of the design of reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and structural steel, as well as earthquake engineering and performance-based design,
- Experience with design-bid-build and alternative procurement models (e.g., P3, Design-Build),
- Passion for the application of digital tools and technology to develop innovative design solutions.
- Ability and enthusiasm for supervising the work of others, including checking and approval of key deliverables.
- Gained project management skills and collaborative project delivery capabilities.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; able to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and clients, and nurture the development of junior staff.
- Project delivery experience in the Aviation and Infrastructure sectors will be considered an asset.
