Mott MacDonald’s transportation and infrastructure teams work on some of the biggest and most challenging projects across Canada. We’ve completed and are currently involved in a host of amazing solutions to complex projects; incorporating our values of sustainability and improving communities. Our ever busy and established Rail and Transit team in Vancouver is seeking a Rail Specialist to focus on design, as well as design management and coordination on a variety of local and national projects.

 

You will be part of a team that is responsible for preparation of reference, conceptual, preliminary, and final design plans, specifications, and estimates.  In this role you will support and work alongside recognized technical leaders and project managers in proactively driving design solutions for both public and private clients.  You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects that include freight rail, LRT, port and terminal development in service of different sectors and locations. 

 

We are looking for a team player that is able to prioritize tasks and can communicate with team members and client organizations on projects of differing scales and complexities in a diligent and proactive manner.   


The role will involve:

  • Connecting multidisciplinary teams and driving design delivery towards key milestones on projects of varying scale
  • Coordinating design and drafting resources to ensure timely delivery of deliverables, in support of the project manager and / or technical lead
  • Assist in delivery of conceptual engineering, preliminary engineering, final engineering designs and documentation of project requirements for rail-based transportation projects, including freight rail and transit
  • Prepare and update reports, specifications, plans, cost estimates, construction schedules and designs for projects
  • Providing support to project management and controls tasks including supporting with certain aspects of financial tracking and reporting
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of work plan, scope, schedule, and budgets
  • Prepare technical reports to clients that capture project risk, key issues and progress
  • Assist with design and project management functions across the project lifecycle
  • Acts as part of a team of professionals on multiple projects
  • Interacts with team members and assists in the coordination of work among other engineers and design staff
  • Communication and collaboration with other offices, project and client staff
  • Assists Mott MacDonald with project pursuits and proposals

 

The ideal candidate will have the following:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university,
  • Between 10 – 14 years of relevant work experience in the delivery of heavy rail and transit projects from concept to final design
  • Familiarity with rail and transit industry standards, practices, and regulations, including the AREMA manuals
  • Experience in yard design and rail operations would be considered an asset
  • Professional engineering license in BC preferred
  • Prior experience acting as a Lead designer and/or Project Engineer in a consulting environment, including experience interacting and communicating with clients
  • Knowledge and experience of design and data management software including Bentley and Autodesk
  • Experience with design delivery / coordination, risk management, activities scheduling and quality assurance on infrastructure projects
  • Experience of and interest in digital delivery of design would be considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills, and fully proficient in MS Office suite of tools.

In compliance with the B.C. Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range is from $96,000 - $118,500
Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
