Senior Civil Engineer – Water & Civil Infrastructure

Shape a better world with us

At Mott MacDonald, we are a global, employee‑owned engineering, management and development consultancy. With strong local leadership and a collaborative culture, we work on projects that improve communities, protect the environment, and create long‑term value across New Zealand.

Our Wellington Civil & Water team is growing, and we’re looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to play a key role in delivering complex and meaningful infrastructure projects across the lower North Island.

Your opportunity

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you’ll work across the planning, design, and delivery of water and civil infrastructure projects, partnering closely with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams. You’ll also support and mentor junior engineers while continuing to build your own technical and leadership capability.

This is a great opportunity to join a well‑established Wellington team with strong project pipelines and the backing of a global consultancy.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver concept and detailed civil engineering design across water, wastewater, and stormwater projects
  • Prepare technical and commercial documentation, drawings, specifications, and schedules
  • Support construction monitoring, contract administration, and site engagement
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across New Zealand and the wider Mott MacDonald network
  • Build strong client relationships and contribute to project planning and delivery discussions
  • Mentor and support graduate and intermediate engineers within the team

About you

You are an experienced civil engineer who enjoys combining strong technical delivery with collaborative, people‑focused working.

You’ll bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in water, wastewater and/or stormwater infrastructure
  • Strong capability in civil design, with exposure to pipeline and hydraulic design
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary consulting environments
  • Confidence engaging with clients, stakeholders, and delivery partners
  • A collaborative mindset and interest in mentoring and developing others
  • Working toward or holding CPEng status is advantageous

You’ll benefit from:

  • Opportunities to work on projects that genuinely shape communities and environments
