Mott MacDonald is seeking a motivated and experienced Team Lead to oversee our Water team in New York City. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with strong technical expertise and leadership capabilities who is ready to take the next step in managing a high-performing local team. You will be responsible for day-to-day team leadership, project delivery, and staff development, ensuring alignment with our PRIDE values and commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
Lead and manage a team of water professionals based in NYC.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
Support staff development through mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback.
Promote health, safety, and wellbeing across the team.
Project Delivery
Oversee and contribute to the delivery of water and wastewater projects.
Ensure technical quality, compliance, and innovation in project execution.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to meet client expectations.
Client Engagement & Support
Build strong relationships with local clients and stakeholders.
Support proposal development and contribute to business development efforts in NYC.
Operational Support
Assist in resource planning and utilization for the NYC team.
Participate in hiring efforts and help identify talent needs within the team.
Ensure compliance with internal processes and standards (QA/QC, timesheets, training).
Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering field (Master’s preferred).
10+ years of experience in water/wastewater engineering and project delivery.
PE license in NY (or ability to obtain).
Proven experience managing small to mid-sized teams or mentoring junior staff.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead by example and promote a positive team culture.
Familiarity with NYC water infrastructure and local client needs is a plus.

At Mott MacDonald, we provide a comprehensive benefit package that includes 401k, medical, dental and vision insurance, short-term/long-term disability, paid holidays, PTO, parental leave and company paid life insurance.
The expected salary for this position is $144,000 - $176,000.
Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
