We are looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support our Canadian Geotechnical Group in Toronto.  

 

In this position you will lead and supervise geotechnical engineers on multidisciplinary project teams to design, build and maintain largescale infrastructure across North America. Your expertise in soil-structure interaction, foundation engineering, ground improvement, and geotechnical risk assessment will support the delivery of major transportation, bridge, and heavy civil engineering projects.  

 

  
As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, your responsibilities would include:   

 

  • Leading the design and delivery of a wide range of geotechnical projects from early planning through design and construction.  

  • Leading the design, implementation, coordination and oversight of medium to large exploration programs. 

  • Performing technical analysis, calculation and design for shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, seismic and seepage studies. 

  • Working with other professionals, clients, and third parties. 

  • Authoring technical memos and reports and specifications to communicate your work. 

  • Supervising, coordinating and reviewing the work of other geotechnical engineers including technical reports, engineering drawings, cost estimates, specifications, contract documents, and technical support during construction. 

  • Overseeing the planning and management of projects to ensure that work is fit for purpose, completed on schedule and within budget.  

  • Providing project management and technical oversight including mentoring team members and setting high standards for professionalism and quality. 

  • Working with new and existing clients to identify opportunities and develop new business as part of our ongoing growth strategy. 

  • Leading the preparation of proposals overseeing technical alignment to project scope and ensuring client requirements have been met.   

  • Lead design teams, plan and manage resources to deliver assignments within the required schedules and assigned budgets.  

  • Demonstrating a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous learning in a collaborative team environment. 

 

 

The right candidate is a versatile and creative thinker who can lead teams of engineers to provide practical solutions to complex problems.  

The candidate must possess the following experience:  

 

  • 10-15 years of geotechnical engineering and project management experience, with an emphasis on transportation, infrastructure, heavy civil and energy engineering structures. Experience working on Toronto infrastructure projects is preferred. 

  • Bachelor’s level degree in Geotechnical Engineering (a master’s degree would be considered an asset). 

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in the province of Ontario. 

  • A thorough understanding of Infrastructure project delivery within the GTA. 

  • Strong background providing geotechnical support for design of complex structures, as well as experience with the Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual, CSA Codes, National Building Code and Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code. 

  • Experience with design-bid-build and alternative procurement models (e.g. P3, Design-Build) would be considered an asset. 

  • A team player who is self-motivated and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment. 

  • Strong understanding of relevant technologies including finite element analysis, such as Plaxis or finite difference such as FLAC, GeoStudio, Leapfrog, LPile. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
