Mott MacDonald’s support services are the driving force behind our organisation enabling us to run efficiently and effectively. The team works collaboratively to offer specialist advice, best practice and technology to all areas of our business specifically designed for our global reach.  

 

 

Overview of the role

The Senior Internal Communications Manager role develops and delivers business unit IC strategies that respond to business needs and contribute to business outcomes.

 

The role works closely with regional business units, key stakeholders and global IC teams to identify priorities and develop clear IC strategies and plans.

 

Working in the European IC team, you will report to the IC Lead for Europe, work across functions and business units, and coordinate the IC strategy workstream’s activity for the region’s business units.

 

You will also work regularly with regional marketing and creative teams, and with the wider regional and global IC function.

 

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Consultancy for business units:
    • Be the main IC business partnering contact for two business units: Buildings or Transport, and Energy or Water and Environment. The final allocation will be based on the successful candidate’s experience
    • Work with unit marketing and communications leads to identify their IC needs and provide strategic advice
    • Manage requests from business units, define project requirements and turn briefs into communication and engagement strategies
    • Consider how changes are likely to be received by unit audiences
    • Advise leaders, units and functions on how to communicate with their audiences in line with regional priorities
    • Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and colleagues across the region and wider business
    • Listen to changing needs and adapt the IC approach accordingly
    • Work with regional marketing and global IC teams so regional IC strategies align with global priorities, timings and messages

 

  • Project delivery for business units:
    • Make sure the right resources are in place to deliver unit projects and campaigns to set expectations and deadlines
    • Make sure the workstream produces high-quality communication and engagement strategies for its business units
    • Coordinate unit behavioural change initiatives with clear and consistent communication across the region, including during crises
    • Build key audience needs and perspectives into internal communication activity
    • Make sure unit messaging and IC activity align with our business plan and values
    • Set measurement approaches and report results to unit stakeholders
    • Brief IC and creative teams on unit campaign and project requirements, monitor progress and provide clear feedback
    • Bring together business functions, units, audiences and the regional IC team to build a clear view of priorities and changes
    • Contribute to workshop planning and delivery, key messages and communication plans
    • Use research and data to inform engagement and communication strategies

 

  • Team support:
    • Work with the Senior IC Manager to prioritise and assign unit team tasks
    • Guide how the workstream works with business units
    • Promote best practice and learning from workstream activity with regional IC teams
    • Contribute to professional development and joint learning
    • Model good cybersecurity, wellbeing and safety behaviours and practices

 

 

Candidate specification

Essential:

  • English to A Level standard, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in an internal communications, communications or marketing role
  • Able to build effective working relationships with senior stakeholders and contribute to set outcomes
  • Able to develop creative ideas and content for campaigns with measurable outcomes
  • Able to turn complex or technical information into clear content for different channels and audiences
  • Able to manage several projects at the same time
  • Experience planning and running workshops or focus groups
  • Able to link communication activity to wider business priorities
  • Able to identify different audience needs and perspectives
  • Good speaking, writing, presentation and storytelling skills
  • Able to communicate clearly with executive, technical and creative teams
  • Able to give constructive advice on communication best practice, copy and storytelling
  • Organised and able to keep stakeholders informed of progress
  • Able to work with minimal guidance and ask for input when needed
  • Good attention to detail and able to deliver quality work under time pressure
  • Able to adapt to change and shifting priorities

Desirable:

  • University degree, college diploma or similar experience in communications or marketing
  • Qualification or certification from a relevant body, such as IOIC or CIPR
  • Able to ask thoughtful questions and offer constructive feedback
  • Reflective and able to learn from feedback and experience
  • Able to learn and apply new technologies
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
