The transportation planning practice of Mott MacDonald is actively seeking a creative, highly talented and hardworking senior transportation planner for immediate employment in the Los Angeles, CA office. The ideal candidate will possess a sound technical background in transportation planning including the application of microsimulation transportation analyses software including pedestrian modeling, traffic modeling and public transport operational modelling.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Development of multi-modal transportation planning projects with an emphasis on rail base public transport
  • Having a thorough understanding of transportation related analyses to complete projects for clients in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver including pedestrian modeling and evaluation
  • Proficiency in utilizing industry related software/tools (such as Synchro, HCS, ArcGIS, and/or VISSIM) to develop traffic/operational studies and capacity analyses. Experience in light rail transit (LRT) modeling and operations using VISSIM and OpenTrack is a plus
  • Preparing traffic operations analysis, corridor analysis, traffic impact studies, and transportation plans development
  • Conducting traffic analysis for traffic management plans including projecting and analyzing diversions as well as summarizing benefits and costs
  • Communicating results in presentations and in writing
  • Interpreting travel demand modeling and demand forecasting results to aid in development of future traffic volume projections
  • Leading development of multi-modal conceptual designs to c.30% design level
  • On street and site exposure, with potential to spending time in a field-based environment.
  • Writing technical reports and papers for clients and/or internal distribution. Additionally, creating presentations of findings that will be presented to a diverse group of clients and the public
  • Providing quality control of traffic analyses, including traffic data, forecasts, simulation and operations analysis
  • Working effectively in team situations, collaborating with regional traffic engineering teams in support of projects, and mentoring staff
  • Interacting directly with clients at project meetings and building strong client relationships
  • Adhering to project schedules and budgets and keep project PM aware of any issues
  • Representing Mott MacDonald at conferences and professional societies

We’re looking for a senior transportation planner to join our team to continue this and invite applications from candidates with:

  • Master’s degree in transportation engineering or similar
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in transportation planning and professional experience
  • California professional or traffic engineer license or must obtain license within one year
  • Traffic engineering studies, analysis and design experience
  • Site experience through surveying and/ or construction management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in VISSIM modeling with LRT and signal timing applications
  • Must have the ability to research, present and convey information clearly and concisely
  • Must be able to professionally communicate with all staff levels of the organization/industry
  • Independent, critical thinker with strong analytical ability and commitment to high quality outputs and follow-through

At Mott MacDonald, we provide a comprehensive benefit package that includes 401k, medical, dental and vision insurance, short-term/long-term disability, paid holidays, PTO, parental leave and company paid life insurance. 

The expected salary for this position is $145,000- $177,000 

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
