As part of a Program Management team, we are delivering program management, design oversight, and construction management services for accessibility upgrades at eight stations across the five boroughs.
The selected stations — 7th Avenue, Beach 67th Street, Dyckman Street, Grand Avenue, East 149th Street, Metropolitan Avenue, Lorimer Street, and New Dorp — present unique technical and logistical challenges. Many were built decades ago without elevators or adequate space for modern accessibility features. Our multidisciplinary team is coordinating complex upgrades in active stations that operate 24/7, ensuring minimal disruption to riders.
To enhance collaboration and streamline project delivery, Mott MacDonald supported the integration of Asite — a cloud-based common data environment — into the accessibility upgrades program. As one of the early MTA projects to adopt this platform, our team played a key role in configuring Asite for real-world use across multiple stakeholders.
We worked closely with MTA user groups, the agency’s Asite support team, and the platform developer to overcome initial implementation challenges and tailor the system to meet the specific needs of the project. This included establishing customized project roles, automated distribution workflows, and user-friendly navigation tools.
To ensure a smooth onboarding process, we created simplified training guides and delivered interactive presentations to MTA staff, focusing on the submittal review process and offering practical tips to improve day-to-day usage. The result is a more transparent, efficient, and accessible exchange of information — helping to keep teams aligned and the project on schedule.
By introducing this digital infrastructure, we’re not only improving coordination across disciplines, but also setting a new standard for how technology can drive success in complex transit projects.
Once complete, these upgrades will significantly improve access for everyone — including people with disabilities, seniors, parents with strollers, and travelers with luggage. By enhancing station accessibility, the project supports a more inclusive transit system and strengthens mobility for all New Yorkers.
