Biography

Tell us about your specialism and why you chose it

I specialise in global health and I’m passionate about how, as a society, we work together to get to a place where everyone can live healthy lives, with access to high quality healthcare whenever it’s needed. Working in global health was not my initial plan. My dissertation for my master's degree was focused on exploring the social and economic impact of small, women-run businesses in remote communities in Nigeria, Uganda and Ghana. These businesses were social franchisees, providing lifesaving health services to women and families. Through this lens, I witnessed how central access to quality healthcare is for families, communities and economies to thrive.

Why did you choose to join Mott MacDonald?

The global health team within Mott MacDonald are fund managers for the UK aid funded Fleming Fund programme; a global antimicrobial resistance (AMR) programme being delivered across 25 countries. It supports governments to strengthen national AMR surveillance systems and encourages the use of data to inform policy. The programme is at the forefront of addressing AMR, one of the most pressing threats to human, animal and environmental health. I wanted to be a part of that.  With the impressive range of expertise we have in our globally based team, we have an opportunity to increase our impact and further drive forward improvements in health and wellbeing.

How do you demonstrate Technical Excellence in your work?

Technical excellence is at the core of everything we do. Everyone plays a part in successful programme delivery: from the scientists leading the design of innovative interventions, through to our engagements with governments and partners to ensure strategies are appropriate to the context. Our commitment to excellence translates into results and impact.

Where in the world has your role taken you?

Through my work I’ve been lucky enough to explore many different countries and cultures. Highlights include: Northern Nigeria, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana, Nepal and Bangladesh.

What are your career highlights and achievements?

I’ve been fortunate to work alongside dedicated, passionate, resilient teams delivering essential, lifesaving healthcare for women and girls in highly complex environments.
