Biography

Ming Tan is a PhD-qualified chartered civil engineer with over 20 years of experience in the nuclear sector, covering nuclear new builds, existing stations, decommissioning and defence. In the last 10 years, Ming has been heavily involved in nuclear new build developments, especially from the regulatory perspective. More recently, Ming has been leading on small modular reactor (SMR) activities globally. 

As the global practice leader of Mott MacDonald’s nuclear portfolio, Ming is responsible for shaping our activities and opportunities related to delivering complex and large-scale nuclear facilities across the complete project lifecycle. This includes nuclear and defence new builds, gigawatt reactors and SMRs, medical research facilities, technology development, decommissioning, and waste disposal and storage.  

Ming also previously led our advanced analysis team within nuclear, specialising in earthquake engineering and impact assessments. Ming is passionate about innovation and technical excellence in this area and has authored numerous papers on related topics. 

Ming is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE); a member of the Structure Expert Panel for ICE; and an elected committee member of the Society of Earthquake and Civil Engineering Dynamics (SECED).
