What do you do at Mott MacDonald and what are you currently working on?

I work as a water/wastewater engineer out of our Jacksonville, FL office. I started working at Mott MacDonald as an intern in 2019 and turned full-time when I graduated in 2021 with my bachelor's in civil engineering. I work on various pipelines, lift stations, and water/wastewater treatment facility projects within northeast Florida and have had the opportunity to see projects from the beginning of design through completion of construction.

What does a typical day look like for you at Mott MacDonald, and how do you find opportunities to excel in your role?

On a typical day, I coordinate with multiple disciplines across Mott MacDonald related to structural, site/civil, and electrical design, attending progress meetings and developing scopes for new projects. Between writing reports and being on site for construction, each day brings its own adventures and challenges.

What opportunities have you had to grow your specialism or develop your career here?

I have had the unique opportunity to develop client relationships due to my visibility and leadership in project roles in the office and on the job site. My involvement with American Society of Engineers (ASCE) and Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA) also expands my network and provides great opportunities to build teams for upcoming projects. I have gained deeper understanding within my depth due to my exposure of construction management, which I always bring back to the design table.

At work, how do you manage your safety and wellbeing?

At home I maintain a clean and organized living space to reduce hazards. I recently bought my own home and purchased fire extinguishers and fire blankets, maintain smoke alarm batteries and do a bi-annual check of all systems to ensure proper working conditions.

What does it mean to you to be trusted to do brilliant things at Mott MacDonald?

Beyond just work, I uphold the moral values of honesty and integrity. I pride myself on always putting my best self forward and treating others with respect. With these values at the forefront, I know I am a representative of Mott MacDonald and always strive to make a lasting impact in my profession.

How do you collaborate with colleagues to achieve common goals?

With any great business, it’s always about the people behind the logo. Each person is unique in the way they communicate and grow, so my approach is adapted to each situation to align our common goals. Communication is key so learning how to effectively move the conversation forward based on that person's perspective is my strategy.

There is a wealth of knowledge across teams and individuals within the company, and they are always willing to share it. Most importantly, bring your authentic self and a mindset of curiosity and continuous improvement.
