Tell us about your role and where you are based

I am a senior piping engineer working in the industry division of Mott MacDonald India, based in Mumbai.

Optimising piping layouts for industrial facilities often involves solving complex design problems. Getting the right design can significantly improve the operating efficiency and cost efficiency of plants for clients.

I chose my career path based on my interest in design engineering. My day-to-day work continues to challenge and interest me and delivering projects successfully gives me great satisfaction.

What does it mean to you to be trusted to do brilliant things at Mott MacDonald?

I have been given opportunities for client engagement including presenting our design models. I have been trusted to experiment sometimes in how I present proposals to clients and to take decisions while leading the team.

Can you share a moment when you felt particularly trusted and empowered in your role?

I had an opportunity to work on a design for a vaccine plant during the Covid-19 pandemic. It gave me a sense of pride to work on a project that is improving the health and wellbeing of the population.

What are some of the most exciting or innovative projects you’ve been trusted to lead or contribute to?

I was co-lead on two projects to design multi-purpose, multi-product chemicals facilities for a leading firm in the sector.

Our design innovations helped to deliver high-performance manufacturing and processing plants that combine safety with resource and energy efficiency.

What does a typical day look like for you at Mott MacDonald, and how do you find opportunities to excel in your role?

A typical day comprises of technical design, coordination with all stakeholders, team leadership and detailed planning of our work.

How do you collaborate with colleagues from different specialisms to achieve common goals?

There is a strong focus on improving soft skills, such as effective communication, through in-house training. Good coordination across disciplines plays an important role in delivering work on time while ensuring quality. This is the collective aim of our teams and it is great to deliver projects collaboratively.

What inspired you to join Mott MacDonald, and how has your career journey evolved since then?

I joined Mott MacDonald five years ago because of its reputation for a great working environment and delivering great projects.

Right from the induction process, I was impressed about the systematic approach we follow in all our processes.

My career journey has continued to evolve by gaining technical knowledge, learning on-the-go, applying the latest technology to improve the design and delivery of projects and for making better decisions at work. My personal wellbeing is also taken care as part of the supportive culture at Mott MacDonald.
