Our collaborative culture helps us to combine technical excellence and strategic advice, adding value for clients at every stage, from ideation and delivery to operations and maintenance. We caught up with inclusion and community impact specialist Morgan Scott to talk about her role within our business and the importance of working with a team that trusts you to take the lead, try new things, and learn through experience.
I work as the inclusion and community impact specialist for Mott MacDonald in North America. Recently, I’ve been supporting proposal and project teams by writing content related to inclusion, community impact, and our participation in the US Department of Transportation’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program. I also help oversee and support internal employee-led committees as they plan and deliver their initiatives.
Right now, I’m working with our global sustainability team and regional stakeholders to build out a framework for our social strategy across all regions. It’s been a great opportunity to connect local priorities with our global vision.
No two days look the same, which makes my role so exciting. One day I might be coordinating a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative or hosting an internal committee webinar. The next day, I’m deep in proposal work and juggling a few submissions at once. I also get to connect with people from all parts of the business, which keeps things dynamic. I try to find opportunities to excel by looking for ways to add value, whether that means anticipating what a team might need or coming to the table with ideas and potential solutions.
I’ve had all sorts of opportunities to grow here. Mott MacDonald gives me the space to learn by doing, without fear of being penalized for not getting it perfect right away, which I find incredibly valuable. I’ve drafted proposal content on my own, received feedback from my manager, and eventually reached the point where I only needed a quick review at the end – if anything.
I’m in a stage of my career where repetition and hands-on practice are everything. The more I do something, the more confident and capable I become. That said, it’s also important to maintain a high standard and know when to loop others in so we’re using everyone’s time wisely.
Collaboration is at the core of everything I do. My work relies on partnering with colleagues across North America and the wider business to move initiatives forward, whether it’s developing proposal content, supporting internal committee efforts, or shaping our CSR and social strategy. I’ve learned that the best outcomes come from listening, building trust, and staying flexible in how we get things done. It’s never a solo effort. We get farther when we work together and share the load.
For me, it comes down to having a manager and team who genuinely trust me to take the lead, try new things, and learn through experience. I’ve been given opportunities to grow always feel like my voice and ideas are heard. Any time I’ve asked for help, even from someone I’ve never met before, I’ve been met with open arms. That kind of support, combined with the freedom to take ownership, gives me the confidence to keep pushing myself and growing in my role.
Be open to new opportunities, even if they feel slightly outside your comfort zone. Say yes to things that stretch you, and don’t be afraid to ask questions along the way. Try to be a sponge and learn from people around you. There’s so much knowledge in this company, and people are always more than happy to share it if you just reach out.
We are looking for enthusiastic, inspiring, and committed people to join our growing team.
