Mott MacDonald is seeking a qualified Construction Inspector to support the delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience inspecting pump stations, lift stations, and pile-driven foundation systems, ensuring construction quality, safety, and compliance with project specifications. The role is onsite in client locations in the State of Virginia.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections of pump station and lift station construction, including mechanical, electrical, and structural components
  • Monitor installation of pile-driven foundations, ensuring proper depth, alignment, and load-bearing capacity
  • Verify contractor compliance with approved plans, specifications, and regulatory standards
  • Document daily construction activities, including labor, equipment, materials, and progress
  • Perform and witness field testing (e.g., concrete, compaction, hydrostatic, electrical systems)
  • Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and utility agencies to resolve field issues
  • Ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety protocols
  • Maintain accurate and detailed inspection reports and redline drawings

 

Candidate Specifications

  • Diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in construction or civil engineering preferred in combination with accumulated years of experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction inspection, with a focus on pump stations, lift stations, and deep foundation systems
  • Familiarity with pile driving equipment, geotechnical reports, and foundation testing methods
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in water/wastewater facilities
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites
  • Preferred Certifications
    • NICET Level II or higher in Construction or Water/Wastewater Systems
    • OSHA 10/30 Certification
    • Confined Space Entry Training
    • First Aid/CPR Certification
