In this role, you will be working within a tight-knit Finance team committed to the Asia business unit, with links into our wider APAC regional finance team and Shared Service Center based in Bangkok in managing the financial accounts for Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.

 

Job Description:

As the Financial Accounting Lead for Hong Kong, China and Taiwan, you will play a key role in managing 4 team members and leading the function to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, compliance with regulations, and contributing to the overall financial health of Mott MacDonald. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

Accounting:

  • Oversee day-to-day activities bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, and cash management for Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.
  • Handle month-end and year-end closings, including account reconciliations and adjustment entries to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Mott MacDonald Group accounting policies and practices.
  • Ensure that the local book (if applicable) reconciled with the internal records.

 

Intercompany: Review intercompany transactions and balances, and arrange monthly settlements, taking into account any tax considerations.

 

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and analyse annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement) to comply with statutory reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and submit timely and high-quality quarterly consolidation reports to Group Finance.

 

Auditing:

  • Manage internal and external audits, including providing necessary documentation and audit responses.
  • Address audit findings and improve financial processes to meet statutory deadlines.

 

Taxation:

  • Collaborate with the Group Tax team to prepare and submit applicable statutory filings and ensure timely settlement of applicable payments.
  • Provide financial information for Transfer Pricing document preparation.

 

Financial Controls:

  • Develop, maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and ensure financial reporting accuracy.
  • Complete and sign off the annual Financial Control Matrix.

 

Insurance: Manage renewal of insurance policies over property, plant and equipment.

 

Communication: Present financial information and insights to financial and non-financial stakeholders, including country managers and senior leadership.

 

Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance and training as needed.

 

Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in special financial accounting projects, system implementations, and process improvements.

 

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Hold relevant accountancy professional certifications: CPA, CA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in financial accounting, with a proven track record in a similar role.
  • Experienced in leading and managing a small team (currently this role has 3 direct and 1 indirect reports).
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Meticulous, well-organized, and conscientious with a high level of initiative at work.
  • Able to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, a strong sense of responsibility with a positive working attitude.
  • Resourceful and proactive, with a can-do attitude and willingness to learn and go-beyond.
  • Prior experience in an audit firm environment is preferred.
  • Adept at building and maintaining effective communication and relationships with key stakeholders, including the Shared Service Center, Group Finance, wider finance team across Asia,  executives, non-finance teams, auditors and banks, ensuring seamless collaboration.
  • Proficient in English communication, both written and verbal.
