About the business unit
Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers both project, programme & commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across the built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors. 

 

We deliver tailored solutions that directly address our clients’ key challenges, combining our world-leading project expertise with unrivalled programme delivery capabilities and advisory services.

 

APD delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting and education, health and care management.

 

Overview of role

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Planning Consultant to join our growing team. This role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of projects and industries, supporting project leads in delivering value to our clients and contributing to the ongoing development of our business. 

 

What you will bring to the team 

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage, and maintain high-quality project schedules. 
  • Support project managers in the successful delivery of project plans throughout the lifecycle. 
  • Monitor and track progress against schedules, identifying risks, issues, and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Provide planning insights and recommendations to project teams using established tools and methodologies. 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support business development activities where appropriate. 

 

Essential   

  • Proven experience as a Project Planner, with a solid understanding of planning, monitoring, and controlling project delivery across various industries and contract types. 
  • Strong attention to detail and a results-driven approach, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. 
  • Ability to create and maintain detailed project schedules based on technical data or scope statements, including integration of resource and cost data. 
  • Capable of documenting and presenting project schedules in internal or client-facing assurance reviews. 
  • Experience coordinating with stakeholders to assess progress at activity, WBS, and project levels. 
  • Analytical skills to interpret schedule variances and support the development of corrective actions to improve performance. 
  • Proficient in preparing and presenting progress reports and planning summaries to both internal teams and clients. 
  • Familiarity with schedule assurance techniques (e.g., DCMA) and ability to document and present findings. 
  • Competent in using planning software, particularly Oracle Primavera and Microsoft Project. 
  • Understanding of key project control concepts, including estimating, risk management, and cost control, with experience collaborating across disciplines. 

 

Desirable   

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant field. 
  • Experience working in complex or highly regulated industries. 
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage challenging situations with professionalism and integrity. 
  • Exposure to business development or proposal support activities. 
  • Experience across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to commissioning. 
  • Effective communicator with the ability to build strong working relationships. 
  • Commercial awareness and sound judgment. 
  • Working knowledge of reporting tools such as Safran and Power BI.
