Mott MacDonald is currently seeking a Project Engineer for water, wastewater and surveying projects. This position will be in based in our Charleston West Virginia office.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • General management and oversight of multiple projects
  • Maintain a safety program for all staff, and promote safety standards of personnel and equipment
  • Prepare construction inspection summaries of daily activities and weekly reports
  • Meets with utility representatives related to the coordination of necessary relocation, construction work and compliance with permits and/or utility relocation schedules
  • Maintain relationships with clients, business owners, and the public in project execution
  • Receives general instructions regarding assignments and is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in the solution of work problems.
  • General knowledge of water and wastewater systems and components
  • Review of project schedule, progress and deliverables with those he/she will manage or support
  • Review of contracts, drawings and specifications for constructability
  • Operate and maintain all technical surveying instruments and measuring devices needed to complete different types of survey assignments for water and wastewater projects
  • Perform routine analysis to check applicability, accuracy, and reasonableness of data
  • Conduct various types of survey activities on surveys associated with water and wastewater projects
  • Reduce and plot survey data
  • Participate in basic layout and field engineering activities
  • Conduct records research
  • Coordinate the findings of the work produced with engineering personnel, clients, and others concerned with the project
  • Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed
  • Familiarity with the latest software for downloading survey data

We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or similar
  • 5 years minimum experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • PE, PS or EI preferred
  • ­Ability to walk and climb over rough terrain and withstand working outside for up to 8-12 hours in varying temperatures
  • Must possess manual dexterity with the physical ability to work in situations which require bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and lifting/carrying items up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Must be able to carry survey equipment that is up to 48 inches in length
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Protective eyewear, gloves, mask) and other safety equipment required by the company guidelines and procedures

  •  Strong leadership skills, work ethic, and team-player attitude
  • Strong technical, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, background check, and drug screen
  • Must be willing to travel
