Our New York City Portfolio is currently looking to add a Project Manager with experience in water or wastewater to join our team. Mott MacDonald’s water/wastewater team is actively growing its water practice in New York. In this position you will be tasked with the overall project management of a number of water / wastewater projects at one time. 

 
The position offers excellent potential for professional growth and the opportunity to collaborate not only with water resources personnel, but with our many practices including dams, geotechnical, energy, and transportation. The qualified candidate must have strong leadership and project management experience and direct business development experience during their career, with the ability to generate project leads, build client relationships and win work.  This position requires direct interaction with clients and the ability to manage and mentor Mott MacDonald professionals. The role will require managing design teams comprising Mott MacDonald’s supporting technical disciplines and specialty sub-consultants.  

 

Responsibilities of the position will include, but not be limited to: 

  • Interacting with clients and regulatory agencies.  

  • Provides administrative and technical management over more than one water resources, water treatment or wastewater project. 

  • Responsible for establishing and periodically reviewing time-and-hour budgets and meeting those budgets on the projects. 

  • Periodically reviews project schedule and progress on the projects. 

  • Outlines more difficult problems and methods of approach for other engineers. 

  • Supervises or coordinates several varied assignments simultaneously. 

  • Identifies potential business development with existing clients and takes an active or lead role in the proposal process. 

  • Maintains continued relationship with client after project is finished to assure securing future work the client may have. 

  • Performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more-diverse project. 

  • Applies intensive/diversified knowledge of engineering/scientific principals/practices in broad areas of assignment and related fields. 

  • Calculates cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data 

  •    Perform detailed design related to the various projects encountered as a municipal engineer including but not limited to storm sewer systems, sanitary sewer systems, water systems, and pump stations.  

  •    Prepare and develop engineering drawings, specifications, and other project deliverables. 

  •   Develop engineering project cost estimates; 

  •   Assist during construction to serve as the lead project engineer responsible for review of shop drawings, RFIs, and design clarifications; 

  •   Assist and lead permitting activities with local and state regulatory agencies; 

  •   Attend project meetings, prepare agendas, and meeting minutes; 

  •  Coordinate and work with various disciplines in the execution of the work;   

  •   Work closely with project managers and senior design engineers in review of work and coordination in the execution of designs. 

 

We invite applications from candidates with the following experience: 

  • B.S. Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering required. 

  • 7+ years' experience in water engineering 

  • Experience working with the NYC department of Environmental Protection and/or other city agencies is preferred. 

  • Both design and management of water related projects 

  • Mentoring of less experienced engineers 

  • PE in the state of NY preferred or the ability to obtain one within 6 months 

  • Self-starter with ability to lead and manage people and projects 

  • Commercial approach to delivering projects 

  • Skilled in technical writing

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.

 

 

The expected salary for this position is $125,000- $153,000.
