Mott MacDonald NZ is a dynamic and innovative engineering, management, and development consultancy working with high-profile clients across New Zealand. We are a wholly independent, employee-owned company with strong local leadership and autonomy. We have a supportive and collaborative culture that values equality and diversity, and we take proactive steps to create an inclusive workplace.

Our successes over the past years have seen us take significant roles on a range of NZ landmark and country-shaping projects, including Lake Onslow NZ Battery, Auckland Airport’s new Domestic Terminal, City Rail Link, and Seascape Residential Tower, Auckland (tallest occupied tower under construction).

Mott MacDonald is working on a number of city-shaping transport projects in New Zealand, and we are currently looking for an experienced Engineer to join our team as a Technical Director to develop our presence in the Wellington region. This role would see you work with key clients across the region, linking with our Rail team in Auckland and Christchurch.

About the Role

This is a leadership opportunity for our wider rail team. Based in Wellington, you will lead projects and work packages to deliver great outcomes for the business, as well as our clients. Your experience in preparing designs, reports, specifications, and other deliverables for rail schemes in NZ will help us maintain and deliver to our high level of technical excellence across many projects.

Track and project engineer experience will be ideal for the clients and projects we are working on in Wellington, Auckland, and internationally. You will be looking to develop and grow our rail team in Wellington, on the back of current and future project wins.

As part of your role,  you will work with a range of different colleagues from various disciplines on a range of projects. Your experience in mentoring and guiding engineering professionals through the early stages of their career will see you continue to shape the growth and development of our Wellington office for years to come.

About You

You will be a rail engineer with experience across complex transport and multi-disciplinary infrastructure programmes. We are especially interested in candidates with railway transit stations, signalling, OLE, and track upgrades experience.

With proven experience in business development, project management, and stakeholder engagement, you possess a strong understanding of rail infrastructure and transport systems. Your excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills enable you to effectively manage projects and engage with stakeholders. Additionally, your ability to analyse data and make informed decisions ensures that you consistently drive growth and achieve excellence in all your endeavours.

Ideally, you would also have a bachelor’s degree (Engineering) or equivalent, with experience in track design and design management.
