Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Sustainability Consultant to join our growing Climate Change & Sustainability (CC&S) team. This senior-level role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful projects that address the global risks of climate change through sustainable infrastructure delivery. 

 

You’ll be joining an experienced team with contracted work already in hand, embedding sustainability into the design and construction of large and exciting infrastructure projects across sectors. As a trusted advisor to public and private sector clients, you will lead multidisciplinary teams in delivering carbon mitigation, climate resilience, and sustainability-focused services. You will also contribute to the broader strategic goals of the organization by engaging in business development, thought leadership, and cross-regional collaboration.   

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Manage and direct projects that could include: 

    • Net Zero strategy development and delivery 

    • Greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories and embodied carbon assessments 

    • Climate risk and resilience assessments 

    • Adaptation planning and implementation 

    • Envision framework implementation 

  • Coordinate the application of relevant frameworks and tools (e.g., LEED, CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Standards, ENVISION, PIEVC). 

  • Support the integration of sustainability and climate considerations into infrastructure planning and design across sectors such as buildings and transportation. 

  • Provide commercial leadership, including budget and contract oversight, ensuring high-quality deliverables aligned with client expectations. 

  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and external engagement within Mott MacDonald’s global advisory and climate change network. 

  • Lead business development initiatives to grow the sustainability and climate change portfolio, including identifying new opportunities, building client relationships, and contributing to proposal development.  

  • Drive strategic growth by positioning Mott MacDonald as a leader in sustainable infrastructure, leveraging market insights and cross-sector collaboration. 

  • Participate in industry events, client forums, and external publications to promote the firm’s climate and sustainability expertise. 

 

Candidates who can demonstrate the following skills and experience will be considered for the role: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering, environmental sciences, sustainability, or a related discipline. 

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in engineering, infrastructure, or sustainability consulting. 

  • Proficiency in climate and sustainability frameworks such as LEED, CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Standards, Envision, PIEVC, and/or Net Zero methodologies. 

  • Strong project management capabilities, including budget development, team coordination, and contract management. 

  • Demonstrated experience in preparing technical proposals and client-facing deliverables. 

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
