Mott MacDonald has an immediate need for a Senior Mechanical Designer / BIM Specialist to work on Built Environment (Buildings and Facilities) related projects in Canada and assist in planning, design and construction of commercial, industrial, institutional, governmental, transportation, and general infrastructure projects.  

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
 

  • Work within a Mechanical engineering team or in a BIM team in a multi-disciplinary, time sensitive environment with changing priorities.

  • Take personal responsibility to assure that your work is completed on time, on budget, and within the quality standards of the firm. 

  • Work with other disciplines and offices within Mott MacDonald.

  • Lead junior BIM technicians, specifically in the Mechanical BIM design.

  • Develops drawings, preliminary layouts, sketches, and/or marked-up prints utilizing conventional drafting tools and/or computer-assisted design/drafting programs. Prepare 2D and 3D packages from the design models.

  • Assists in the preliminary layout of complex projects, defining appropriate drawings and information. 

  • Performs drafting to accepted client, company, and/or national standards, e.g., symbols, nomenclatures, engineering terms, etc. 

  • Understanding and performing engineering calculations and designs independently.

  • Prepares design modifications from provided sketches and/or data when prototypes are not available. 

  • Reviews and checks others' work, as requested. 

  • Work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers) in a team environment to resolve design/drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives. 

  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of all deliverable products and services in assigned areas of responsibility. 

  • Respect and enforce policies and procedures in the preparation of drawings.

  • Realize the different stages of the project in the timeframes and budgets.

  • Perform other related duties that may contribute to the projects.
     

The successful candidate will possess the skills and experience listed below:
 

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in BIM with a focus on Mechanical design.

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized Canadian College or equivalent.

  • BIM Certificate or Diploma from a recognized Canadian Institute or equivalent.

  • Experience working within the transit and aviation is preferable although not essential.

  • Proficiency with the latest version of AutoCAD and Revit.

  • Excellent communication skills are essential for team-based working. 

  • Experience in drafting electrical systems is a plus. 

  • Design experience in creating mechanical drawings including single-line diagrams, P&IDs, and control diagrams
