About the Role

As the Senior Environmental Consultant, you will be part of the Environment practice within the Middle East Unit, KSA office. In this role, you will work across a range of sectors including built environment, transport, water and energy (encompassing power and oil and gas), providing services such as policy development, environmental planning, due diligence and general environmental management on projects.

 

This role will provide you with an opportunity to support the climate, environment, sustainability and waste management team undertaking a wide range of activities including managing projects, development of technical reports (e.g. environmental and social impact assessment studies, environmental and social management plans, environmental scoping reports, environmental and social due diligence, ESG reporting) and undertaking environmental audits and monitoring for various projects.

 

Key responsibilities and duties are listed, but not limited to, the below:

 

  • Manage multiple projects whilst undertaking technical delivery, engagement with clients, and wider engineering teams, Middle East Unit (MME) Environment team and global environment practice within Mott MacDonald
  • Manage complex bids and proposals and ability to develop technical and financial proposals for complex and multi-disciplinary projects
  • Prepare comprehensive environmental reports including environmental social impact assessments (ESIAs), scoping studies, audit and monitoring report in line with national laws, regulations KSA NCEC requirements and relevant international standards and best practices including, IFC Performance Standards, IFC EHS Guidelines, IFC industry-sector guidelines and Equator Principles
  • Prepare and undertake environmental audits and monitoring in line with the relevant environmental auditing and monitoring procedures and protocols
  • Ensure that the quality of deliverables is to the consistently high standards demanded by the projects
  • Undertake stakeholder engagement with relevant government agencies, communities and international organisations as part of the project requirements
  • Understand Quality, HSE and Company Systems and ensuring that they are applied in all lines of work
  • Effectively communicate with project stakeholders on issues relating to the environmental management compliance
  • Attend regular and ad-hoc project meetings
  • Assist in providing solutions for environmental issues which may arise on project sites
  • Participate in project and bid workshops and discussions
  • Support team members enthusiastically
  • Facilitate public participation, if needed (present at public meetings, communicate effectively with project role players and stakeholders).

 

Candidates Specification: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree level qualification is preferable in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental management, climate change, geology, or similar
  • Masters’ degree in relevant field would be highly advantageous
  • Knowledge of IFI requirements and international lenders (e.g. Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, WBG EHS Guidelines) would be advantageous
  • Specialty in one of the specialist areas such as marine environment, climate change, carbon, ecosystem services, environmental modelling, ESG reporting and/or GIS would be advantageous
  • Strong technical writing technical skills are mandatory in both English and Arabic
  • Ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of statutory, technical and environmental considerations and the ability to provide technical solutions to meet those obligations
  • Experience with successful NCEC submissions and knowledge of NCEC approval/permitting processes is strongly desirable
  • Familiarity with applicable regional environmental legislation, standards and compliance measures within KSA particularly MEWA and NCEC requirements for EIA  
  • Experience with conducting stakeholder engagement with relevant stakeholders including client organisation, government agencies, communities and other relevant parties
  • Experience with Giga projects in KSA is highly desirable
  • Good understanding of contractual issues and risks relating to delivery of projects
  •  Experience as environmental consultant
  • Experience in KSA and or Middle East region is advantageous
  • Professional membership with recognized organizations (e.g. IEMA or CIWEM, IES) would be advantageous
  • Ability to travel for meetings and site visits where necessary
  • Excellent communication skills with good report writing, presentation, analytical and computer skills
