We are seeking a Building Performance Expert with strong expertise in energy modeling and building commissioning to join our sustainability and building services team within Advisory. This role will focus on optimizing building performance, supporting LEED certification, and ensuring compliance with energy codes and standards (e.g. ASHRAE 90.1, Title 24 and CALGreen). This senior-level role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful projects that address the global risks of climate change through sustainable infrastructure delivery.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on the development and application of energy models for energy code and sustainability rating system compliance (e.g. LEED and Envision)
  • Perform simulations to optimize building performance, energy efficiency, and code compliance (Title 24, CALGreen, ASHRAE 90.1).
  • Execute energy simulations, efficiency calculations, daylighting analysis, and whole-life/embodied carbon assessments.
  • Prepare and submit documentation for LEED, Envision and other rating systems
  • Review design documents and specifications for compliance with LEED and energy codes.
  • Evaluate energy conservation measures and propose innovative sustainability solutions.
  • Lead or support commissioning for new construction and renovations, ensuring LEED and energy code compliance through design reviews, functional testing, and detailed reporting.
  • Provide technical guidance on energy efficiency strategies and sustainable design.
  • Coordinate with project teams, including architects, engineers, and project managers, to integrate sustainability goals and optimize building systems for performance and compliance.
  • Provide commercial leadership, including budget and contract oversight, ensuring high-quality deliverables aligned with client expectations
  • Participate in industry events, client forums, and external publications to promote the firm’s climate and sustainability expertise.
  • Lead business development initiatives to grow the sustainability and climate change portfolio. Including identifying new opportunities, building client relationships, and contributing to proposal development.

 

Candidates who can demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and experience will be considered for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Building Science, Sustainability, or related field.
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP BD+C preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in energy modeling for energy code and LEED compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of various US state energy codes (e.g. Title 24, CALGreen) and standards requirements (ASHRAE 90.1, 62.1, 55).
  • Proficiency in energy modeling software e.g. eQUEST, EnergyPlus, One Click LCA, OpenStudio
  • Experience with Net Zero Energy and high-performance building design.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical system design, architecture HVAC, plumbing, construction phases, and rating system portals
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong project management capabilities, including budget development, team coordination and contract management.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.

 

 

The expected salary for this position is $125,000 - $153,000.
