Mike has over 30 years of experience in civil, transportation engineering and planning, delivering complex infrastructure and advising on major projects for New Zealand’s key government agencies. He is known for his strategic vision, commitment to excellence, and ability to inspire teams. He joined Mott MacDonald in 2017 and held the role of transport lead for New Zealand for six years, during which time he established and expanded the business’ transport team, before being appointed general manager in 2023.
Mike takes over from Peter Taylor who has been with Mott MacDonald since the opening of the New Zealand business in 2012 and held the role of managing director since 2022. Peter steps into a client director role, where he will focus on client engagement and strategic market development.
Matthew Hinton, who moves into the role of transport leader, brings over 20 years of experience in transportation and land use planning across New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. Since joining Mott MacDonald in 2016, Matthew has successfully developed a transport planning offering, building market capability and reputation by contributing to key projects such as the Auckland Airport Landside Development and Wesley West Neighbourhood Development.
Adrian Jones, regional managing director, says the changes demonstrate a commitment to further strengthening client relationships in the region: “Mike has played a key role in many of New Zealand’s city-shaping projects. His strong client and industry relationships, and commitment to delivering sustainable and successful outcomes for our clients and our communities will be invaluable as we continue to grow the business in 2025.”
Mike O’Halloran said: “Matthew’s ability to deliver innovative and effective solutions has earned him a strong reputation within New Zealand. Matthew will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our transport market operations in New Zealand. This includes developing and implementing strategic plans, engaging with clients, and driving business development.
