Climate change

Increasingly severe and frequent climate-related events such as prolonged drought, extreme rainfall, sea-level rise and coastal storm surges are resulting in more sustained harm to human safety, the disruption of livelihoods and increased physical losses.

Our role is to establish and empower community and water management organisations, forming them into strong co-operatives. These organisations should be able to interact with public and private organisations to further develop the area and to improve the living conditions of the people by making the available resources significantly more productive.

Climate change is an area of unprecedented global concern and significance – endangering lives and costing countries hundreds of billions of dollars each year. The regions of the world most at risk from the impacts of climate change are often more economically disadvantaged with the least robust infrastructure systems. The growing severity of climate related impacts demands urgent action to slow and stabilise global temperature rise, to manage and adapt to the already unavoidable impacts, and to identify and mainstream the social opportunities and transformative change that investment in climate resilience will bring.

Understanding vulnerability to climate change and developing appropriate risk mitigation and resilience measures demands a rare set of expertise. Our team includes internationally recognised climate experts, environment and water experts, policy specialists, project preparation professionals, governance and investment specialists, monitoring and evaluation specialists, and infrastructure engineers. We are collectively focused on the understanding of climate risks in international development, and align our expertise to advise and deliver the investment required to create a resilient society.

Our key areas of focus:

Resilient cities

Connecting with our urban specialists across all sectors, we provide expertise in adaptation planning, by embedding resilience in urban systems – from buildings, to roads, to neighbourhoods, based on the latest climate projections.

Resilient infrastructure

Linked to the above, we can provide you with a suite of tailored recommendations to address the impacts of climate change on a country’s infrastructure assets and systems – for example telecommunications, rail, electrical grids – assessing system interdependencies and vulnerabilities, on a risk-based, cost-optimised approach.

Water resources management

We have over 80 years’ experience working with governments and agencies worldwide to help them respond to water resources management challenges which are compounded by the effects of climate change.

Accessing climate funds

We have an in-depth understanding of multilateral and bilateral financing mechanisms, as well as project preparation from concept through to full proposal. We are also an accredited observer to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and a key contributing member of the Climate Markets Investment Association (CMIA).

Climate change policy

We offer technical advisory services to help you understand, translate and formulate policy in order to deliver the appropriate climate change mitigation and resilience measures that support the Paris Agreement.

Investment and insurance sector services

We address specific investment and insurance concerns around climate change, such as finance risk, underwriting and stranded assets – both physical and financial. Our financial sector services target opportunities associated with mobilising private sector climate funding, co-funding arrangements with development finance institutions, insurance, and enabling PPPs.
