Solar
We’re proud to have supported more than 200 utility-scale PV projects in Japan, including as owner’s engineer on the two largest solar PV installations in Japan: the 235MW Kuni-Umi plant in Setouchi and the 258MW Sakuto plant. During the development phase of the projects, we helped establish project bankability, including on energy yield analyses through the study of satellite and actual observed records by the Meteorological Authority (JMA) to evaluate local solar resource levels. We also reviewed designs and harmonised standard international performance tests and performance guarantee structures with local business practice. We continued to support the projects with our site- and office-based teams through construction, and are supporting the operations phase.
Wind
We provide the full range of wind power services on both onshore and offshore projects. We've assisted local and international developers and lenders in delivering major projects. Highlights include the 33MW Ohorayama wind farm, Japan’s first project-financed onshore wind farm, and the 140MW Akita Offshore wind farm, Japan’s first project-financed offshore windfarm. We provide advisory services that maximise potential while meeting global standards and have been involved from the earliest stage of site identification, to procurement for wind farms to achieve more favourable conditions, to construction oversight – including on robust testing procedures for turbine performance testing following construction. Our team effectively communicate in English and Japanese.
Biomass
A world leader in biomass consultation, we offer a range of services from due diligence and feasibility studies to the simulation of the power generation output for each fuel property and financial model evaluation. Securing a long-term stable fuel supply is one of the key challenges and we’ve worked on projects sourcing biomass for delivery to Japan from supply chains in both North America and Southeast Asia. We also support the implementation of environmental assessment in accordance with domestic environmental laws and local regulations.
Thermal
As independent engineer, we've provided technical and environmental review, construction and operations monitoring, and have managed lenders' technical risks for non-recourse financed projects. Our involvement in thermal projects for Japanese clients comprising over 3GW of thermal plants in Japan includes 1GW of new power generation capacity using the most advanced and efficient coal combustion technology to replace the Fukushima nuclear power project.
