Job Description

Perform engineering duties in planning and designing tunnel construction projects. Work on projects of increasing difficulty, with work being reviewed periodically by supervisor. Assist in the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, studies, and designs for project. Receive objectives and technical advice from supervisor. Compile and compute a variety of engineering data. May conduct tests or experiments requiring selection and adaption or modifications of equipment or procedures; record and analyze data and prepare reports. Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Extract engineering data from various prescribed sources; process the data following well-defined methods; and present the data in prescribed form. Perform standardized or prescribed assignments involving relatively limited responsibility and general instructions as to methods and procedures. Perform standard practices and techniques in specific situations. Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc. Perform computation by substituting numbers in specified formulas, plot data and draw curves and graphs. Attend meetings with Clients and Contractors. Travel 20%, fully reimbursed.

Candidate Specification

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Must have at least 1 year of coursework in the following:
  1. Fundamentals of Geotechnical Engineering;
  2. Project planning and managing;
  3. Shield tunneling;
  4. Ground movements, settlement and lateral displacement in soft ground tunneling;
  5. Rock properties and tunnel ground behavior;
  6. Geology and wedge stability;
  7. Tunneling initial and final support design;
  8. Analysis of displacements, stresses, and loads; and,
  9. Elastic, elasto-plastic and ground reaction curves.
20% travel, fully reimbursed.
