Environment & social (ENS) resource lead

Job Profile

The Environment & Social Team currently comprise of 40 staff. It is a cross cutting business which includes the following primary services; environmental and social impact assessments, strategic and cumulative level assessments, environmental and social due diligence and monitoring, social safeguards, carbon management and air quality. The team proactively support other sectors within Energy Unit, primarily in rapid environmental & social due diligence, follow up monitoring services and feasibility study inputs.
The air quality and carbon sub-teams support other sectors in Mott MacDonald Group, mainly highways and mega UK infrastructure projects such as HS2 and Crossrail.

Job Description

Your key responsibilities include leading in the following areas;


Work very closely with Account Leader (participation in the decision to bid process) to grow the business


Develop a pool of capable and cost-effective resources to win and deliver project work,


Review Monthly Financial Divisional Report; profit, loss, WIP and make sure PMD is up to date for all projects and liaise with Project Principals to ensure rescue actions for projects are in place, recorded and implemented.


Ensure all H&S practises and BMS are adhered to (e.g. for travel)


Ensure a strong support infrastructure is in place to support maximum utilisation from project staff and maintain utilisation in accordance with budget/target and act to correct underperformance


Ensure career development and talent management is in place for staff (via PDRs and development plans)


Retention and recruitment of staff and ensure high level of retention


Responsible for the budget of professional excellence and training


Review and implement resource plans in collaboration with Account Leaders


Review efficiency gains in delivery of projects (in discussion with Team leaders)


Ensure sub-sector coordinators work closely with the Energy Unit Divisions


Review growth of staff in Italy, Spain, Colombia, South Africa and other territories as identified by the Division/Unit to meet ENS’s team’s resource requirements.


Identify future capability needs, and meet them through staff development, access to other MM resources or recruitment


Implement the succession plan (including execution of individual development plans but excluding the management team)


Encourage and facilitate the movement of staff


Canvass account and team leaders and make recommendations for reward and recognitions (e.g. promotions)


Assess staff training needs and implementation of training plans


Monitor timesheets (including overtime) and expenses for reasonableness


Ensure team leaders are managing in accordance with our EVP and the values of Mott MacDonald and how we manage staff

Candidate Specification

You must have considerable and proven experience and success in managing and growing an environmental & social team. Experience in project delivery, including commercial and financial management, people management, including staff mentoring and development. Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills and proven track record of successfully leading and growing teams.
