Our water consultancy business provides a diverse range of flood risk management services to clients around the world. Demand for these services continues to grow, and in response to this we are keen to engage an experienced professional to expand our existing UK based flood risk management team.
This position can be offered on a full-time or a part-time basis.

Job Description

You will work closely with our existing teams of hydrologists, hydraulic modellers, mathematicians, environmental scientists and engineers to deliver flood damage assessments and economic appraisals to a range of clients, with emphasis on fluvial, coastal and surface water flood risk management schemes.

You will apply science and engineering principles to maximise the opportunities for local communities and adopt a partnering approach to help clients achieve their objectives.

You will have experience in assisting clients to deliver projects through the preparation of Business Cases and your detailed knowledge of UK flood risk management and water environment legislation.

Candidate Specification

Essential requirements:

  • Relevant degree level qualification (e.g. civil engineering, hydrology/hydraulics, economics, mathematics or other related disciplines);
  • Chartered (or working towards) with a relevant professional body;
  • Experience preparing flood and erosion damage (benefit) assessments using the Flood Hazard Research Centre‚Äôs Multi Coloured Manual;
  • Knowledge in economic assessment principles such as the use of Discount Rates, Net Present Value, Benefit-Cost Ratios, Optimism Bias and Capping;
  • Experience in preparing Businesses Cases to secure funding and undertaking option appraisals following FCERM Appraisal Guidance and other relevant UK regional guidance;
  • Ability to communicate and present to internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner, both written and verbally;
  • Strong interest in flood risk management and related environmental areas;
  • Strong experience using Excel and supporting competency in one or more programming languages such as R, Python or VBA;
  • Understanding of GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS or MapInfo).

Other desirable skills include experience in assessing ecosystem services, river engineering cost consultancy, multi-criteria option appraisal, project management and database management (ideally Postgres). The candidate will be encouraged to continue and expand their professional experience in related disciplines, e.g. river engineering, hydraulic modelling, hydrology or project management which are all desirable attributes.

Ideally the candidate will be based in our Bristol office however other UK locations may be available for the right candidate.
