Job Description

Reporting to the Principal Environmental Consultant, you will be using your ecological skills to study and evaluate the pressures of proposed developments on the natural environment and help devise means of avoiding or mitigating adverse impacts.

Your Next Challenge
  • Organising and undertaking ecological, fisheries surveys, ecological and fisheries impact assessments. You will have a particular interest in the aquatic environment (marine and fresh water)
  • Developing practical measures to avoid, minimize, mitigate and/or compensate ecological and fisheries impacts for infrastructure and development projects
  • Liaising with clients and relevant authorities on project matters
  • Taking responsibility for project delivery including time, cost, co-ordination and stakeholder management
  • Provide technical support in client, stakeholder and public consultations; acting as technical expert and providing advice and solutions, to meet the client requirements
  • Participating in the preparation of bid submissions and business development activities

Candidate Specification

What You'll Need
  • Degree holder in environmental science with major in ecology / biology or equivalent. Holding a Master’s degree or above with research experience is an advantage
  • At least 4 years of practical experience in ecological baseline surveys, ecological monitoring and impact assessment works gained in a consultancy or applied academic setting
  • A strong interest and experience in marine or freshwater ecology, and preferably in both. The experience will preferably include both field surveys and analysis.
  • Great interest in how the natural environment responds to development pressures, and in using such knowledge to help formulate approaches which avoid or minimise harm
  • Demonstrable track record in consultancy projects involving aquatic ecological surveys and assessments, including hands-on experience in some of:

- Marine mammal, fisheries surveys and aquatic fauna surveys

- Ecological and fisheries impact assessment and/or design of ecological and fisheries enhancement and mitigation measures
  • Successful experience of large complex multi-disciplinary projects will be an asset.
  • Possession of recognized professional qualification (e.g. MCIWEM, MHKIQEP) is an advantage
  • Experience in assisting in public consultations
  • Proactive, results-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent in analytic and problem-solving skills; a sound knowledge of statistical techniques would be useful.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese
  • Candidates with less experience may apply for the post of Assistant Environmental Consultant
