Transport
Our team has been involved in landmark transport projects in Malaysia including the Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel and the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transport (KVMRT) stations and tunnel. We have strong skills in transport application working alongside government, project owners, suppliers, operators and regulators.
At the forefront of the development of the KVMRT project for seven years, our alignment specialists managed the entire route for both Lines 1 and 2 drawing on in-depth knowledge of environmental, geological and spatial alignment challenges. We delivered the detailed design of Line 1 and provided site supervision services for the underground tunnel in Kuala Lumpur and for the underground stations and elevated stations.
We’ve been providing mechanical and electrical (M&E) system services to assist clients in managing safety and reliability issues and provide technical design inputs for M&E systems and rolling stock projects. We’re also providing independent checking and verification services on various rolling stock projects for Keretapi Tanah Melayu and LRT3 to reduce the journey time and improve reliability.
As part of Mott MacDonald’s role of delivery partner for the global future cities programme, our team in Malaysia is supporting mobility projects in Iskandar Johor and Melaka – Green Bus Network Improvement Plan, and Integrated Heritage Area Mobility Plan.
Energy
Our role in Malaysia’s energy sector includes ongoing support of the development of large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) system schemes. We support developers, contractors, investors and lenders in roles such as technical advisor, owner’s engineer and lender’s engineer from the project inception, design review, supervision, commissioning and operation monitoring stages.
We acted as owner’s engineer for the Pengerang Co-Generation Plant project, the first co-generation plant in the country to harness advanced H-class gas turbine technology. We were also the independent engineer for the Prai Power project, a H-class combined cycle gas turbine plant.
We engineered the first large-scale combined cycle power plant built outside the western hemisphere, at Paka, and the Sg Kelinchi dam and transfer tunnel.
Our involvement in PV solar projects covers more than 850MW and continues to grow. We’re working as technical advisors and lenders engineers on multiple projects. This is part of our effort in supporting the energy transition initiatives by the Malaysian government.
We are also involved in the large-scale solar scheme in through the 50MW and 30MW PV solar in Sepang, Selangor and Bukit Selambau, Sungai Petani Kedah. Sungai Petani Kedah Plant has achieved commercial operation.
