The 47MW Redsol photovoltaic power plant in Perak, Malaysia, has reached financial close. Mott MacDonald is technical adviser on the project, working with sponsor Scatec Solar. The consultancy performed technical due diligence and provided support to assist the financing, including reviewing the project’s design, contracts, environmental and social outputs, financial model, construction and operation arrangements and energy yield.
Located in northwest Malaysia, the Redsol plant comprises more than 126,000 solar panels. It is expected to deliver 67GWh of renewable electricity to the national grid each year, enough to power over 20,000 homes in Malaysia.
Scatec Solar is one of the leading independent solar power producers. The company has one solar power plant in operation and two more under construction in Malaysia totalling 197MW. The Redsol project was awarded under Malaysia’s second large scale solar tender round in December 2017. Construction of the plant started in late 2018, with the first power to the grid expected towards the end of 2019.
