Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Energos to provide engineering, procurement and construction management services for a 90,000 t/annum energy from waste plant in Milton Keynes, UK.
Located at Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park – which is being designed, built and operated by AmeyCespa on behalf of Milton Keynes Council – the plant will process non-recyclable and non-hazardous household waste using gasification technology. This waste will be converted into a syngas using partial combustion heat to free hydrogen and carbon. This will produce high temperature steam capable of generating 7MW of electricity.
Mott MacDonald will provide the full mechanical and electrical design of the power plant as well as procurement and construction management support services.
David Brown, Mott MacDonald’s framework manager, said: “The plant will make the most of waste which otherwise would have gone to landfill. By using the most efficient and cost effective technology, the plant will generate renewable energy and create enough electricity to power approximately 11,000 homes in the region.”
The project is due to be completed in 2016.
