Mott MacDonald has been appointed to all four lots of Thames Water’s new professional services framework. The consultancy will provide engineering, commercial, environmental and dispute resolution consultancy services under the framework, which is expected to run until 2030.
Thames Water’s long-term strategy focuses on exceeding customer expectations and keeping bills affordable, as well as tackling challenges such as increasing demand from population growth, making assets more resilient to climate change and adapting to new laws and regulations.
Under the framework, Mott MacDonald experts will be available throughout the Thames Water region:
- Under Lot 1, Mott MacDonald will offer engineering consultancy services such as initial investigation and feasibility studies, preliminary, detailed or construction design support, planning, cost, and project management and commissioning and post construction support. This will involve various disciplines such as civil, mechanical, structural and electrical engineering, control, process and instrumentation design, architecture, building services, site surveys and geotechnical investigations, as well as hydrological, hydrogeological, reservoir and water resource services and wastewater and clean water network and process modelling.
- On Lot 2, the consultancy will provide commercial consultancy services and strategy development review. Quantity surveying services will cover initial cost studies, cost and detailed estimating, agreement of final accounts and valuations. Planning and project management resource, cost auditing and procurement services may also be required.
- As part of Lot 3, Mott MacDonald will deliver environmental impact assessments, ecological surveys, flow monitoring, groundwater level measurements, water quality sampling and analysis, drought planning and planning or project management resource.
- Mott MacDonald will provide dispute resolution services as part of Lot 4. This will cover commercial and/or contractual management and the review of contracts, as well as support and assistance in relation to contractor or supplier claims and contractual or commercial disputes. Mott MacDonald will prepare mitigation strategies and provide front line analysis, contract management, adjudication services and arbitration, as well as assist in the negotiation and settlement of contractual and/or commercial disputes.

Mott MacDonald operates across all sectors of the water industry, for all types of clients. Services the consultancy offers include the investigation and development of water resources, the assessment of water needs and implementation of appropriate supplies and the treatability and disposal of wastewater. This appointment follows the extension of frameworks with both Severn Trent Water and Yorkshire Water into AMP6 as well as new contracts with Anglian Water, United Utilities, Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, Northumbrian Water and Scottish Water.
