Mott MacDonald has been selected to deliver the technical assistance to the implementation of the Gansu Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) project funded by the World Bank. The project aims to improve the quality of vocational institutions in Gansu, north west China, and strengthen the link between education and industry.
Mott MacDonald’s work will include training of the teacher to improve teaching quality, assistance for curriculum construction. The TA will enable colleges to develop updated curricula, and revised classroom teaching standards and teacher assessment handbook.
The project is focusing on three colleges in Gansu including Gansu Vocational College of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Gansu Finance and Trade Vocational College and Gansu Senior Technical School of Mechanics so far but with potential to expand to other colleges later.
Gansu’s skills development has expanded in the past decade due to a growing pool of student supply and increased investment in the TVET sector. Tuition and school fees have been waived at the secondary TVET level and students from low-income households receive additional financial support.
Hu Wenbin, project director, Mott MacDonald, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the World Bank with this important scheme, helping to equip future generations with the skills required to economic upgrading and development in China. We will use the valuable experience gained while delivering similar successful programs for the projects in Yunnan, Xinjiang and Guangdong to produce best practices from Gansu.”
The project will run until the end of December 2022.
