Mott MacDonald has appointed Dr John Perry as its Group practice manager for transportation. He will be responsible for coordinating transport activities across the business including projects, business development and professional excellence.
John has over 35 years’ experience in transport design, management development and research and has been business development director for Mott MacDonald for the past five years. He brings to his new role a wealth of experience in operations and business development as well as technical and project management skills. Throughout his career at the consultancy, John has worked on major UK and international projects including the A3 Hindhead road scheme and Taiwan high speed rail. He has international expertise having worked in the UK, South and Central America, Singapore, Taiwan, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and New Zealand.
Based primarily in Mott MacDonald’s London office, John’s new role will involve strategic planning, direction and delivery of the Group’s transportation business. This will include identifying new business opportunities as well as providing support, driving value engineering managing risk management aspects on large transportation projects. He will also assist staff with development and recruitment and liaise with practice leaders across the company, bringing together expertise from different parts of the business.
Mott MacDonald’s transport business comprises 6,400 staff covering a broad range of disciplines, including engineers, project and programme managers, economists, environmentalists, transport planners, procurement experts and many more. The consultancy works on strategic projects across all forms of transport by rail, road, air and sea and its portfolio includes major projects such as London’s £15bn Crossrail project, New Zealand’s NZ$2.86bn Auckland City Rail Link and South Africa’s Transnet port and rail upgrades. Mott MacDonald’s vast network of offices worldwide means it can provide a complete consulting service wherever clients or projects are based.
