Mott MacDonald has appointed John Reavy as a project principal in its global aviation team. John will lead capacity analysis and planning projects to identify necessary facility requirements for airport expansions. Initially, this will involve taking over responsibility for leading the capacity requirements on the Heathrow expansion project.
John has 17 years’ experience in operations research and decision support modelling across different aspects of the aviation industry. He joins from Etihad Airways, where he was head of operations research and responsible for managing the research, design and implementation of innovative strategic optimisation tools aimed at enhancing revenue. John spent the majority of this time in the United Arab Emirates, working on a range of strategic and operational projects enabling the expansion of Dubai’s airports and the country’s airlines.
Prior to this, John was head of operational research at Dubai Airports. During this time, he was responsible for the forecasting, capacity assessment and planning and demand management for both Dubai International and Al Maktoum International airports. John’s team developed and translated demand scenarios and target service levels into phased capacity, facility and efficiency requirements for the masterplans of both airports. He also led the capacity declaration methods for runways, stands and terminals that drove the International Air Transport Association scheduling process for both airports, as well as delivered optimal passenger throughput at desired service levels.

Mott MacDonald has a strong track record of providing airport planning, functional design studies and strategy advice to many of the leading airport clients around the world, including Heathrow, Singapore Changi, Hong Kong, Delhi, Athens and Auckland. The consultancy was recently appointed to develop the masterplan for John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
